QANTAS’ BRISBANE–PALAU ROUTE SHOWS STRONG GROWTH AS PRESIDENT WHIPPS DISCUSSES 2ND WEEKLY FLIGHT

Brisbane, Australia (Jan. 27, 2026) — President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr. met in Brisbane with Mr. Anthony Penney, Qantas Regional Manager for Queensland, Palau, and Papua New Guinea, and his team to review the performance of the Brisbane–Palau service operated under Australia’s Palau Paradise Express program, which has been extended through November. The route has shown solid growth, increasing from 85 passengers in January last year to more than 300 passengers per month.

Meeting participants were excited to discuss the start of cargo freight, which is anticipated soon. President Whipps reiterated his support for adding a second weekly flight, noting that greater frequency would give travelers more flexibility for shorter trips.

Qantas representatives commended the Palau Visitors Authority and its marketing partners, describing the campaign promoting the Qantas flight as one of the best they have worked with.

Also joining the meeting was Mark Tattersall, First Assistant Secretary, Office of the Pacific.
