On December 7th, 2017, the Palau Pledge, a world-first eco-initiative that requires all visitors to the country to sign and make a commitment to protect Palau's natural environment and respect local traditions, was launched. In support of this initiative, the Palau Visitors Authority (PVA) board, management and staff members also took this pledge and began their own pledge run to government and non-government offices, as well as to the tourism industry itself.
PVA is contributing to the incredible social media response by posting pledges on photo and video and providing other information. From various ministries, to walk-in guests at the PVA Office, these individuals were invited to take the PVA Palau Pledge Challenge.
This Palau Pledge is taken by visiting guests, who promise directly to the children of Palau, to preserve their home before entering the country. The positive impact on Palau's tourism industry is that visitors will learn to "tread lightly". This experience and understanding is a special kind of souvenir that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Available in English, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean, the Pledge is also available online at http://palaupledge.com/. In addition, an in-flight short film is shown, and can be found at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhuY8eNLzBM&feature=youtu.be.
