Ekei's Women Organization Enjoys a Day Out with the Daytime Bus Service

What an exciting day for Ekei's Women Organization! Today, the group took a delightful ride on the public bus, heading to the Surangel Supercenter for a day full of shopping and delicious food. Their excitement was contagious, and the bus was filled with joyful singing all the way back to Ernguul Park.

A huge SULANG to the incredible women of Ekei's Women Group for bringing so much happiness and energy! Your enthusiasm is truly inspiring.

This outing was part of the broader Daytime Bus pilot project, which operates on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Launched on April 23, 2024, the Daytime Bus service aims to cater to the transportation needs of the public, especially those who cannot drive, lack access to cars, or seek to reduce gas expenses. Initially connecting the Belau National Hospital with the Surangel Supercenter, the service plans to expand based on user feedback.

With a fare of just $1.00 (cash only, please pay the exact amount), the Daytime Bus ensures accessibility for all, offering free rides to those aged 17 and under. This initiative represents a significant move towards reducing the island's dependence on automobiles. By promoting public transportation, we're fostering a more sustainable and environmentally friendly transportation system in Palau.

The Daytime Bus project is supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the Ministry of Human Resource, Cultural, Tourism, & Development, the Ministry of Education, and the Palau Visitors Authority. This follows the successful trials of morning and evening buses, along with the 680 Night Market shuttle.
