Palau's Comeback on the Global Travel Stage at ITB Berlin after 10 years

Berlin, Germany – March 4-6, 2025 –Marking a significant return after a decade, the Palau Visitors Authority (PVA) successfully re-established Palau's presence at ITB Berlin, the premier global travel and tourism industry platform. The trade event was represented by Board Member Leah A. Gillham, Marketing & Programs Manager Chloe Yano and Marketing Representative Kiruu Kanai,
Held under the motto "The world of travel lives here," ITB Berlin 2025 welcomed representatives from 170 countries, with over 100,000 attendees, 5,800 exhibitors, and 24,000 convention participants over the course of three days. PVA’s participation at the event reaffirmed Palau’s position as a premier eco-tourism destination, drawing interest from key industry stakeholders and travel professionals.

During the exhibition, PVA conducted 20 business-to-business (B2B) meetings with industry leaders, including China Airlines, Frankfurter Allgemeine (top 3 news publications in Germany) and UNESCO World Heritage Review. Additionally, the Palau booth saw over 60 walk-ins, ranging from independent travelers and content creators to high-profile tourism professionals eager to explore the pristine paradise of Palau. These discussions center on potential and economically viable collaborations and promotional avenues for Palau including joint promotional efforts with China Airlines-Germany for route and destination marketing, and media outreach through press trips with leading publications across Europe.

"The European travel market of 747 million outbound travelers as of 2024 presents a lucrative opportunity for Palau, given its travelers’ longer vacation periods, higher spending power, and strong appreciation for cultural and environmental sustainability. However, flight connectivity remains a key challenge in attracting more European visitors. Germany, as one of the largest outbound travel markets globally, is a prime target for Palau’s tourism efforts. European travelers prioritize immersive experiences such as extended destination stays, road trips, and cultural exploration, making them an ideal audience for Palau’s eco-tourism offerings. Currently, China Airlines provides the most efficient connection to Palau, and if Japan were to introduce direct flights, it would significantly enhance accessibility for European travelers, further strengthening Palau’s appeal in the region." said PVA Board Member, Leah A. Gillham

Palau, renowned for its rich marine biodiversity, UNESCO-World Heritage Site- Rock Islands Southern Lagoon, and commitment to sustainable tourism, remains a sought-after destination for travelers seeking authentic and environmentally responsible experiences. At ITB Berlin 2025, Palau's status as a fresh and intriguing travel option drew considerable attention, signaling a major advance in expanding global partnerships, stimulating visitor interest, and promoting sustainable tourism growth

PVA looks forward to building on the momentum from ITB Berlin and continuing to promote Palau as a must-visit destination for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and cultural explorers alike.
