Strengthening Skills, Empowering Women: A New Chapter at the Food Processing Center

This week marks a meaningful milestone for the Food Processing Center and the Palau Taro Flour Team—we’ve kicked off a 4-day hands-on training with a visiting Food Technologist, and it’s already proving to be a powerful experience.

At the heart of this training is a simple goal: to make our products better, safer, and more value-added. But what’s truly special is who this training is for—our hardworking team and the incredible women’s groups who are the backbone of local food production.

From learning how to properly sanitize equipment to improving our processing methods and understanding what it takes to meet food safety standards, everyone is gaining valuable tools that will help us grow as a team—and as a community. These are the kinds of skills that open doors: to certification, to export, and to creating a stronger market for our local products.

This is more than just a technical workshop. It’s an opportunity to come together, ask questions, share stories, and build confidence. For many of our participants, especially the women, it’s a reminder that they are not just contributors to the food system—they’re leaders in it.

Every session, every demonstration, every conversation is another step forward in our journey. We’re learning how to take the amazing work we already do and bring it to the next level.

There’s a lot to be proud of—and even more to look forward to.
