Ngchesar State, Palau — The Palau Visitors Authority (PVA), recently conducted an Alii Pass site assessment in Ngchesar State as part of its ongoing commitment to strengthening community-based tourism and expanding authentic visitor experiences throughout Palau.
During the visit, the assessment team reviewed potential cultural, historical, and natural attractions that showcase the unique identity of Ngchesar State. Discussions also focused on visitor accessibility, site interpretation, tour guide services, safety, infrastructure, and opportunities for community participation. The assessment included an evaluation of potential dining experiences and local food offerings that could further enhance the visitor experience while creating economic opportunities for community organizations and members.
The Alii Pass Program continues to support Palau’s vision of developing sustainable, community-based tourism by encouraging visitors to explore destinations beyond Koror while ensuring that tourism benefits are shared more equitably among the states. Through partnerships with state governments and local communities, the program promotes cultural preservation, environmental stewardship, and authentic experiences that reflect Palau’s rich heritage.
The Ngchesar assessment marks another important step toward identifying experiences that can be developed into quality tourism products while preserving the state's cultural and natural resources for future generations. Recommendations from the assessment will help guide future planning, capacity-building initiatives, and product development efforts in collaboration with Ngchesar State and its communities.
