Keeping Palau Pristine

In a collaborative effort between public and private sectors, a pilot project has been launched to collect segregated waste from schools in Babeldaob, the Executive Branch in Ngerulmud, and private businesses that are members of the Palau Business Pledge. The Koror State Solid Waste Management will oversee the appropriate disposal of these wastes. Prior to the collection, BPW-SWM and FRIENDS will provide education on waste segregation to ensure proper practices are followed.

President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr. attended the handover ceremony for the project equipment, which includes a flatbed truck designated for collecting segregated waste. The event took place at the Palau Visitors Authority (PVA) on July 25, 2024.

Key partners in this initiative include the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Environment (MAFE), the Ministry of Human Resources, Culture, Tourism, and Development (MHRCTD), the Bureau of Public Works – Solid Waste Management (BPW-SWM), the Koror State Government – Solid Waste Management (KSG-SWM), the Palau Visitors Authority (PVA), and FRIENDS of the Palau National Marine Sanctuary (PNMS), Inc.
